Spare word.
Jun. 20th, 2004 01:03 amIt was something of a surprise to discover recently that the word I had long believed to be surfacicant is actually surfactant. How about that?
I hate being wrong, but since it's not a word I use often, I haven't been wrong in any particularly important ways. On the plus side it means I've now got a spare word, all of my very own. If anyone out there has a meaning going spare, I might be willing to consider a partnership.

In other news I attended "Sccoter School" this week. That's the Australia Post rider training course for posties. It's run by HART. Two days of talking about and riding little red postie bikes.
It was not without highlights. The final assessment was a road ride around Tullamarine. I managed to lose the instructor and two other students in traffic. Go me! They were so impressed I may get to do the safety course again.
Info snippet. Posties rank in the top 10 jobs likely to have time off work for injury. How cool is that? We're number six on the list. Guess who's number seven. Go on, guess. Guess who's slightly less likely to be injured at work than the postman. It's the police! In 2002 there were 730-something "serious" injuries amongst Postal Delivery Officers. No-one seems clear on what constitutes a serious injury though.
BTW there are approximately 6300 PDO's Australia wide. 730 out of 6300 is only slightly less than 12 percent. How's that for 15 bucks an hour?
My new plan for securing a decent financial future for
splodgenoodles is to make my death look like an accident at work.

Date: 2004-06-19 03:32 pm (UTC)I've never been clear on the distinction between Accident and Act of God. Presumably, in the former, he says "Fuck!... Oh well, shit happens...", and in the latter, he's the omnipotent, omniscient being who created the Universe and is implictly responsible for Everything.
If this is true, you have a major inconsistency in insurance contracts which should cause them to explode when applied to a sufficiently entertaining lawyer.
